Important Message:
I am writing to share an important update regarding the South Carolina Youth Challenge Academy. This cycle’s graduating class will mark the sunset of the South Carolina Youth Challenge Academy in the Palmetto State. Cycle 56, which graduates 09 June 2026, will be the final class for the South Carolina Youth Challenge Academy.
This decision is not a reflection of the dedication, professionalism, or impact of our staff, nor of the effort and achievements of our cadets. The South Carolina Youth Challenge Academy has changed lives. It has provided structure, discipline, mentorship, and opportunities to young people who were brave enough to seek change, and that legacy is something to be proud of.
This decision is part of discussions among the South Carolina Adjutant General’s Office, The Office of the Governor of South Carolina, Members of the South Carolina Legislature, and the State Board of Education. As demands grow, we must focus our people, facilities, and funding on South Carolina’s primary military mission. The positive effects of the South Carolina Youth Challenge Academy will continue to shine through the lives of the young men and women it has helped.
